    Wikia's March Madness

    March 13, 2012 by Wagnike2

It's the best time of the year to be a basketball fan. Starting today with the first four games, people will begin shutting off their computers and using fake Excel documents to hide the fact that they are secretly watching games while they are at work. And without mistake, one of most fun things about watching the 2012 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament is getting deeply involved in bracketology. While it would be too difficult for us to run a complete bracket, we are looking forward to getting you guys involved. This is why for the first time ever Wikia will be having polls for each game starting with the Sweet 16.

The voting schedule is as follows:

    • Sweet 16 - Voting Closed
    • Elite 8- Voting Closed
    • Final 4- Voting Closed
    • National Champion…

I now it's not right for me to say this, because I am a new user and all, but when I came here a few hours ago, I saw there wasn't any user in chat! The other things that suprised me that there are many rules about chat. And also, people like to discuss about basketball from what I see in talk pages! So why is the chat always dead?! An open chat that has many users will bring many new users here. I think it's a good idea if we work on this. Share your thoughts.

The Black Mamba might possibly be heading to Turkey to play hoops if the NBA Lockout continues. Kobe Bryant is rumored to be in talks with Turkish club Besiktas. According to their coach Ergin Ataman, "It is a fact that Kobe Bryant's managers have contacted us." Bryant is not the first NBA star that this Turkish club has tried to acquire. In fact last week, Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets signed with the club. Besiktas has noted that they don't have the funds required to hire Kobe Bryant, however if they could gain a sponsor they might be able to acquire him. Besiktas also seems to be the "golden exile club" as they are rumored to be in talks with several other players.

Besiktas is perhaps best known for their signing of Allen Iverson…

Should the league cancel games in the 2011-2012 season (an imminent lockout as of now), many NBA players will look for jobs overseas. Dwight Howard is the most recent superstar to express interest in playing abroad, saying, "If the break does not stop I would come to Europe to continue to improve on a great team" [1]. Center Nenad Krstic has already signed a two-year, $9.8 million contract with CSKA Moscow in Eastern Europe's VTB United League, and Sonny Weems, who would have been an unrestricted free agent from the Toronto Raptors, will play for Zalgiris Kaunas in the Lithuanian league. Of all the NBA players who have already signed, Nets point guard Deron Williams is getting the best deal. He got a one-year, $5 million contract with Turk…

With the NBA currently in a lock out, many people are beginning to question how this will affect the London 2012 games. Many of the NBA's foreign players are now faced with unexpected high insurance costs. Many of the international federations are looking to find a way that would allow them to get around paying this high insurance cost. However, if they can't find a way around this issue then many of the game's top athletes may be forced to sit out of the upcoming FIBA games this summer.

Several big names have already been left off their team's upcoming national teams. Andrew Bogut will not be playing for Australia. Spain has announced that it would cost them up to $5,670,000 to insure the contracts of players including Pau Gasol and Marc G…

There is a possible trade happening between the New Orleans Hornets and Oklahoma City Thunder. The only trade we know of right now is that Oklahoma City might be trading Russell Westbrook for Chris Paul from the Hornets.

Do you believe that this trade is a good move or a bad move for the teams involved?

Candace Parker is healthy and she is back to lead the Los Angeles Sparks. The Los Angeles Sparks were plagued by injuries last year with Candace Parker only playing 10 games before missing the rest of the reason and Betty Lennox who only played 11 games.

The Sparks are excited to get a healthy Candace Parker back as they believe that with their returning veterans and new talents they will have an opportunity to compete for a title for the first time since 2002.

The Los Angeles Sparks open their season on Friday, June 3 when they face the Minnesota Lynx and number one pick Maya Moore.

Are you guys excited about the upcoming WNBA season? What are your opinions on the WNBA in general?

After 19 seasons of strapping up his sneakers, putting on his gym shorts, lumbering over everyone in the league, the 7 foot 1 inch, 325 pound Shaquille O'Neal has decided to call his career over. Shaquille played for six teams over the course of his NBA career, but is perhaps most well known for his years spent on the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Lakers where he won three consecutive championships alongside Kobe Bryant.

From rapping, from dunking, and from being an overall presence in the game - the NBA will not be the same without Shaq. Please share with us some of your favorite memories of Shaq.
